Bővebben Fenerbahce SK
Fenerbahce is Istanbul’s youngest of the Big Three clubs and was born just a few years after cross-town arch rivals Galatasaray and Besiktas. It doesn’t mean the team legs behind the other two in means of titles, power and fan base. Not at all. It certainly has its share of all the above elements and contributes to the heated rivalry of Turkey and its capital.
How heated are the matches between the three teams? Nowhere, it seems, it doesn’t really get to be more intense. And as such, a May 2018 semi-finals re-match derby between Fenerbahce and Besiktas was terminated after Besiktas refused to take the field in protest. It was the second leg, the aggregated score was 2-2 and the match was set to resume from the 57th minute, after previous match was cancelled due to fans’ violence. But Besiktas said no and Fenerbahce was declared a 3-0 winner.
Fenerbahce S.K. (Spor Kulubu - Sports Club) was founded in 1907 (Besiktas was first in 1903, Galatasaray followed in 1905) in the neighborhood of Kadıkoy in the Asian part of Istanbul. The meaning of its name is “Garden’s lighthouse” and its source is the lighthouse a visitor can witness as he enters the Kadikoy area. The same lighthouse made a major influence on the design of the club’s first crust, with the yellow and white flowers surrounding it and hence Fenerbahce’s uniform colors’ which consists of yellow and blue stripe shirts and white pants. The club won the Turkish championship in 1959, the very first year to the establishment of Turkish Football federation.
Over the years, many of Turkey’s great foreign players played for Fenerbahce. Among those, an honorable mention goes to Mehmet Aurélio, a Brazilian born, who played for the club 176 times between 2003-2008 and became the first naturalized Turkish citizen to play for the Turkey national team. Alex de Souza made 245 appearances wearing the yellow and blue between 2004-2012 and was top scorer of the Turkish league on two occasions, as well as player of the year. Another Brazilian, Real Madrid great Roberto Carlos, played for Fenerbahce 65 times in 2007-2009 There were also Argentinian Ariel Ortega (2002-2003), Swedish Kennet Andersson (2000-2002), French Nicolas Anelka (14 goals in 2005-2006) and Dutch Pierre van Hooijdonk (32 goals in 2003-2005) and Dirk Kuyt (26 goals in 2012-2015).
Fenerbahce, which considered to be the richest football club in Turkey, has won a total of 19 Turkish Super League championships, 6 Turkish Cups and 9 Turkish Super Cups. The club’s all-time appearance leader is Mujdat Yetkiner, who played in 763 matches between 1980-1995. The club’s all-time top goal scorer is Zeki Rıza Sporel with 470 goals between 1915-1934.
Fenerbahce plays its home matches in 47,834-seat Şukru Saracoglu Stadium.
