Bővebben Emirates Kupa
The Emirates Cup is a pre-season tournament which has been organized by Arsenal every year since they moved into the Emirates Stadium (after which the trophy is named) in 2007. The one exception to this was 2012 which was the year that London hosted the Olympics. Each year three leading European sides join Arsenal in a two-day tournament played over a weekend. Arsenal won the inaugural tournament in 2007 and had two further victories in 2009 and 2010. In other years the trophy has been won by Hamburg (2008), New York Red Bulls (2011), Galatasaray (2012) Valencia (2014) and the current holders Arsenal.
With two matches each day among four teams, a special method has to be agreed upon in order to produce a winner. Rules for the 2015 contest stipulate that teams will be awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. Attacking play is also rewarded with teams earning a point for each goal they score. In addition, shots on target will be taken into account and will be used to decide the tournament winners if teams are level on points and goal difference, with the winning team being presented with the Emirates Cup trophy after the final match on Sunday.
Visiting teams for this year’s edition are Benfica, RB Leipzig and Sevilla. Arsenal will be entering the tournament on the back of their emphatic 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the FA Cup Final. With attacking players such as Alexis Sanchez, Oliver Giroud and Theo Walcott, they are always an attractive side to watch.
All in all there’s the prospect of a great weekend of football in North London at the end of July and a mouthwatering introduction to the new season.
