Bővebben Manchester
Manchester is a great industrial and commercial city in the north west of England which is known as a center for music and the arts, the home to two renowned and iconic football teams and a bustling energetic urban metropolis which yet is not too far away from the countryside and the mountains.
Like many cities whose wealth dates from the period after the Industrial Revolution, Greater Manchester, which encompasses the independent city of Salford and boroughs such as Trafford and Bury, has reinvented itself in the light of many changes in society and manufacturing. It is now a booming center of activity well worth what will be a memorable visit.
For millions of people around the globe Manchester is synonymous with its two world famous football teams Manchester United who play at Old Trafford and Manchester City who play at the City of Manchester Stadium now known as the Etihad Stadium. Lovers of cricket follow the fortunes of Lancashire CCC and sometimes the England team at the other Old Trafford ground, just along the road from its football counterpart.
Manchester has much more than sport to talk about. There are museums including (inevitably) a Museum of Football and a Science and Technology Museum. There is a Central Art Gallery and in Salford a permanent exhibition devoted to renowned local artist LS.Lowry. Musically Manchester is the home of the Halle Orchestra and at the other end of the musical spectrum has spawned rock bands such as the Happy Mondays (product of the Madchester episode in rock music) and Oasis.
There is no shortage of items of interest to explore in a city which boasts of being the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution, the computer, the Football League and the UK’s foremost pop music program “Top of the Pops”. You can also visit the site of a massively popular TV program “Coronation Street” which in itself has marked the social changes that have taken place in this ever changing metropolis.
And as a bonus there is wonderful countryside not that far away from the bustling streets – so a holiday in Manchester can truly be said to have something for everyone.
