Bővebben Liverpool
If there is more iconic, interesting, in-your-face city than Liverpool, it must certainly be somewhere really special. Do you come to Liverpool and see how one of the greatest port cities in the world has reinvented itself as a center of tourism and business? Are you interested in a raft of world standard museums and art galleries? Are you in search of the home of the Beatles and the other groups who revolutionized rock music in the 1960s? How about Hope Street which uniquely links two great cathedrals, the Gothic style Anglican cathedral and the highly modernistic Roman Catholic cathedral. Or do you want to head to Anfield, home of the mighty Liverpool FC and sing “You’ll Never Walk Alone” with the enormous crowd on the Kop. Or again do you want to examine the port where so many immigrants left for a life in the New World – including those who sailed on the Titanic.
It is amazing how this city has transformed itself. Firstly it was the subject of intensive bombing in WW2 and then its ports, once the home of the great transatlantic liners of the Cunard and White Star lines as well as the entry point for so much of Britain’s imports, went into rapid decline. Now its great buildings have been renewed, the bad news in terms of the rioting that affected areas of the city forty years ago are now nothing but a bad memory.
Now thousands of tourists make a beeline for Liverpool. You’ll see them walking around the Albert Dock, you’ll see them on special buses for the Beatles’ tour being taken round Strawberry Fields and into Penny Lane. They will meet a city that has a unique accent (Scouse) and a wonderful sense of humor to accompany it, a city that has traditionally absorbed people from different parts of the British Isles and, through its shipping, from all over the world.
We mentioned Liverpool FC at Anfield but of course there is an older and also distinguished Premier League side Everton which plays at Goodison Park. There are also within a short drive from Liverpool many leading golf courses including several seaside courses which have hosted the Open Championship.
Liverpool also has a flourishing arts scene –the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra plays at the Philharmonic Hall and there are a string of venues for the latest in rock music. There are no fewer than six leading theaters in the town including the Everyman and the Playhouse at which many leading actors learned their trade.
There will only be one problem in having a Liverpool holiday and that will be finding time for everything. Enjoy!
